Continuing Education: Veterinary Assistant Course

Enroll in our veterinary assistant course to learn how to interact with clients and their animals, provide assistance during examinations, administer medications, and perform other basic animal healthcare duties. The course will be held from September 12 through November 16 on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6 to 9 p.m.

To register, contact Patricia Whitfield at whitfiep@atc.edu or (803) 508-7362. The course is free for South Carolina residents and $595 for out-of-state residents. Participants must have a high school diploma or GED.

During the course, participants will learn:

  • Correct restraint positions
  • Common sites for blood collection
  • Obtaining temperature, pulse, and respiration
  • Prescriptions
  • Basic anatomy of dogs and cats
  • Administering medications
  • Frequent medical problems
  • Animal dental procedures
  • Receptionist duties
  • Radiological duties
  • And more.

The course consists of 102 hours, including 30 hours of required off-campus clinical training and several Saturday field trips.
