Alumni Spotlight: Lillian Brock, '24

Lillian Brock has a bright future ahead after earning her Associate in Applied Sciences degree, majoring in accounting, and earning her Veterinary Assistant Technician certification from Aiken Technical College in April 2024.

“My program of study at Aiken Tech equipped me with the knowledge, skills, and practical experience needed to excel in the field of accounting. From comprehensive coursework to hands-on projects and internships, I gained a solid foundation in accounting principles, financial analysis, and professional ethics,” Brock said.

Brock was very involved in student engagement and community service as well. She served as president of the Student Government Association, volunteered as a tutor, organized and volunteered for food drives, was a member of Phi Theta Kappa, and served as a student ambassador.

“Reflecting on my experience at Aiken Technical College, I am grateful for the opportunities and support that have shaped my academic and personal growth. The college provided a welcoming and supportive environment where I could pursue my passion for learning and prepare for a successful future in my chosen field,” Brock said.

She plans to continue her education at Purdue University and Post University to expand her knowledge and expertise in accounting. Brock also aspires to pursue professional certifications such as the Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation to enhance her credentials and career prospects.

Aiken Technical College played a role in setting the foundation for her future.

Why did you choose to attend Aiken Tech?

Aiken Tech often offers flexible class schedules, including evening, weekend, and online courses, allowing me to balance my education with work or other responsibilities. Many of Aiken Tech's programs are designed to prepare students for specific careers or industries. I found programs tailored to my career goals. With smaller class sizes, I benefited from more personalized attention from instructors. This enhanced my learning experience and provided opportunities for mentorship and networking.

Why did you choose your current program of study?

Overall, I chose accounting as a major to provide myself with a solid foundation for a successful and rewarding career, offering stability, growth opportunities, and the chance to make a meaningful impact in the business world. Accounting involves complex problem-solving and critical thinking. Studying accounting equipped me with valuable skills such as financial analysis, budgeting, auditing, and problem-solving. These skills are transferable and can be applied in various professional contexts. An accounting degree can open doors to a wide range of career opportunities in various industries. Almost every organization, whether it's a multinational corporation, a non-profit organization, or a small business, requires accounting professionals to manage their finances.

What's next for you after graduation?

I've accepted a position as an Accounts Receivable Specialist at Cold Creek Nurseries. Additionally, I'm planning to further my education at both Purdue University and Post University, pursuing legal studies for my bachelor's degree and later my Master of Business degree.

What are your ultimate career goals? How has your education at Aiken Tech prepared you for your future?

I aim to leverage my expertise in financial management, auditing, and strategic planning to contribute to the success and growth of the company I work for.

My education at Aiken Technical College has prepared me well for my future career in accounting. The rigorous coursework provided me with a strong foundation in accounting principles, financial analysis, and relevant software applications. Additionally, the hands-on learning experiences and practical projects helped me develop critical thinking skills and problem-solving abilities essential for navigating real-world accounting challenges.

Furthermore, the supportive faculty and resources at Aiken Tech have equipped me with the knowledge and confidence to pursue further education and professional certifications, such as the CPA designation.
