Aiken Tech Student Medical Assisting Association Members Win Scholarships at State Conference

In March, Aiken Technical College Student Medical Assisting Association members won multiple awards at the South Carolina Society of Medical Assistants conference in Anderson, South Carolina.

Three scholarships were awarded, and students were required to apply and respond to several questions about why they want to be medical assistants and the most important thing they want to possess as an MA. This statewide scholarship opportunity awarded Aiken Tech's SMAA students all three scholarships.

The following students won scholarships: Erin Willis-Franklin, SMAA President; Jennifer Shelton, embedded tutor for the MA program and general studies/general education; and Monica Riley, SMAA Treasurer.

Members also competed in a trivia game called the Bowl of Knowledge. Faith Salyers and Litzy Alonso, two members of Aiken Tech, were on the winning team.

Students were required to attend the first-timer's reception. At the reception, there was a scavenger hunt to get signatures from different officers and members of the South Carolina Society of Medical Assistants. A winner was drawn for free registration for the SCSMA Conference next year. The winner was Aiken Techs, Angel Ellis, SMAA Vice President.

The Aiken Chapter of the SCSMA also received the award for Greatest Numerical Increase of Student Members 2023-2024.
