Aiken Technical College welcomes new ATC Foundation Director

Aiken Technical College is pleased to announce Kym D. Johnson as the new Aiken Technical College Foundation Director.

Johnson brings over 20 years of experience to the role, which includes a robust background in nonprofit leadership, fund development, intergovernmental relations, and higher education. She will oversee the ATC Foundation’s mission to support student success through scholarships, programs, and community partnerships.

Johnson, a seasoned professional in the nonprofit and government sectors, has held roles such as Vice President at Capacity Builders, Director of Grantmaking and Revenue Building for the Girl Scouts of Gateway Council, and Director of Development at the United Way. Her career reflects a steadfast commitment to empowering communities through strategic philanthropy and collaboration.

A Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE) and Certified Grantsmanship Professional, Johnson holds a Master of Public Administration from the University of North Florida and a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Nova Southeastern University. She has also shared her expertise as an adjunct professor in public administration at Flagler College and Florida State College at Jacksonville, Fla.

Originally from Florida, Johnson most recently relocated to join Aiken Tech. She considers St. Augustine, Fla. her hometown but is eager to become an active member of the Aiken community.

“I am honored to join Aiken Technical College and lead the Foundation in its vital work to support students and enhance the College’s impact on the region,” said Johnson. “I look forward to leveraging my expertise in fund development, donor stewardship, and strategic planning to strengthen relationships with community stakeholders and ensure the Foundation’s continued growth.”

Johnson’s goals for the Foundation include expanding access opportunities, increasing engagement with local businesses and industries, and enhancing philanthropic initiatives to support workforce development programs. She aims to build on the ATC Foundation’s legacy while implementing innovative strategies to address the evolving needs of students and the community.

“Aiken Technical College plays a pivotal role in shaping the future workforce,” added Johnson. “I’m excited to contribute to this mission and help create transformative opportunities for our students.”

In her free time, Johnson enjoys exploring local arts and culture, volunteering, and connecting with community organizations.

Johnson can be reached at (803) 508-7413 or johnsonk49@atc.edu.
